Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 25, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes what information OpenNote.dev ("the Service") collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

The Service does not require account creation or login. We minimise data collection, but we may collect the following:

  • Usage and analytics data. We may use privacy-focused analytics services (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics) to collect anonymised usage data — including page views, referrers, browser type, device type, and country-level location. This data does not include personally identifiable information and is used solely to understand how the Service is used and to improve it.
  • Server logs. Our hosting infrastructure may automatically log request metadata such as IP addresses, request timestamps, URLs accessed, HTTP status codes, and user-agent strings. These logs are used for security monitoring, abuse prevention, and debugging, and are not retained longer than necessary.

3. Data You Provide to Tools

When you use our tools, you may input data such as URLs, text, or image files. All tools on OpenNote.dev process your data entirely in your browser. Your files and data are never transmitted to our servers. Nothing you input is stored, logged, or accessible to us.

While our tools are designed to strip metadata, we do not guarantee the complete removal of all hidden attributes, proprietary tags, or embedded data. Users should independently verify sensitive files before sharing or publishing them.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

The Service uses your browser's localStorage to remember your preferred colour theme (light or dark mode). This data never leaves your browser.

We do not set cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. Our infrastructure providers (e.g. Cloudflare) may set functional cookies necessary for security and performance (such as bot detection). These are governed by the provider's own cookie policy.

5. Third-Party Services

The Service may rely on the following third-party services:

  • Cloudflare — for CDN, DDoS protection, DNS, and analytics. Cloudflare may process request data in accordance with their privacy policy.
  • GitHub — hosts certain portions of the Service's code. GitHub's privacy policy applies to the repository, not to this website.

We may add, remove, or change third-party services at any time. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party service.

6. Data Retention

Since all tools run entirely in your browser, no user-generated data is stored on our servers. Analytics data is retained in aggregated, anonymised form. Server logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operational purposes.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

8. Your Rights

Because we collect minimal data and do not maintain user accounts, there is generally no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you believe we hold any personal data about you and wish to exercise your rights under applicable privacy laws, please contact us.

For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), OpenNote.dev acts as a Data Controller. However, as we do not store personal identifiers linked to specific individuals, we may be unable to fulfil "Right to Access" or similar requests, as we have no way to verify which data, if any, belongs to you.

9. Disclaimer

While we take reasonable measures to protect the data processed by the Service, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and accept no liability for any unauthorised access, data loss, or breach arising from your use of the Service.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time without prior notice. Changes take effect immediately upon posting. It is your responsibility to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Service after any modification constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this policy, you may contact us at explainthisapp@gmail.com.
